Athletic march on in cup
23 March 2010: Pembroke - 10pts - Narberth Athletic - 20pts
The Mighty Athletic played down in Pembroke last night in the quarter finals of the Pembrokeshire cup. The weather conditions were described as "lovely" by a local mallard.
With conditions being so exigent, the winners of the game would be the ones who made the fewer mistakes and also who scored the most points.
Despite the fact that Iestyn was playing, incredibly the Pembroke pack had the weight advantage. This was displayed in the scrum where the Athletic certainly took second place in "who’s best at scrumming" contest.
Martin Bowen had another cracking game at prop proving once again at the age of 48 he can still perform well at a low level.
Jeff Collin's feared he would offend his sides so he changed with the ref and watched the game equidistance between the two coaches. Neither side saw fit to offer him some pitch time none the less afterwards he hoorayed six times.
Ryan Whatmore had two tries and Tim Plumb had one, Rhys Davies banged off a couple of conversions and one penalty. Pembroke crossed for one try and also struck a penalty. You should at this point have deduced that we won.
After 80 minutes of touchline observation Audrey concluded that rugby is indeed played in the top 16 inches.
The Athletic play Lougher on Saturday in the league. Those willing to invest a little time in travelling up to watch will in essence be rewarded by seeing the Athletic play rugby against Lougher, away.
